A weekend in Medellin, Colombia 🇨🇴

A weekend in Medellin, Colombia 🇨🇴

Fred and I ventured down to South America over the Easter weekend to meet up with some of our friends from San Diego who were celebrating their birthday. Although it was a short trip, we were still able to check out a lot of great restaurants, cafes & rooftops so I wanted to share them with you all!

We also vlogged during our trip and you can watch it on Youtube. Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel as we are planning some other fun trips later this year that we can’t wait to share.

My travel OOTD. I’ve actually had these pants for a while as they are part of a set, and felt a trip to Colombia was the perfect opportunity to wear them. I paired them with a black bodysuit and denim jacket since the plane tends to be cold and, of course, sneakers which are always a travel-day must for me. I also linked above my favorite Travel Pro carry-on suitcase as well as this custom Lily & Bean tote bag that I’ve had since our honeymoon to France that truly makes the best travel bag.

Since we arrived late on Thursday evening, our first time venturing out was Friday morning to this cute cafe called Pergamino. We later learned that there were several locations throughout Medellin. They had a full breakfast/lunch menu as well as an array of pastries. As you know, Fred and I are a sucker for a good croissant so we were eager to try some of theirs. I also ordered a lavender latte and it was perfection!

Once our west coast time friends got up and around, they too were eager to see what Pergamino was all about, and so we actually ended up going to another location with them for brunch. I opted to try one of their matcha lattes, which was equally as delicious as the lavender one I had a few hours prior.

Later in the day, we checked out Bonhomia for lunch and drinks and wow! Not only was the ambiance super cute, the food was delicious and the drinks were also a 10/10!

Fred had their “frutti di mare” and I opted for their version of steak frites which comes with fried plantain chips in place of French Fries. Not only was my steak perfectly seasoned & cooked, but they also served it with a delicious (what I believed to be) spicy mayo sauce to accompany the plantain chips and it definitely hit the spot!

Our second morning began with breakfast at Memento. It is a new cafe that was absolutely amazing and had the best ambiance! We even met the owner - Juan Pablo - who was so kind, asking how our food was and even gave Fred a private tour of his rooftop bar upstairs. (Watch our YouTube vlog to see more about both of these places).

From there, we took a short Uber ride to the metro and rode it a few stops to get on the Metro Cable.

It was a unique experience because not only do the locals who live on the mountainside use the metro cable as a form of transportation, but tourists like ourselves also take rides to have great views of the city.

Once we arrived to the top, there was a beautiful park that we explored called Parque Arví. There were vendors selling food and textiles and so much stunning greenery. We walked around for a bit and also grabbed a bite to eat before catching the last metro cable back to the bottom.

The architecture of the buildings in Medellin was incredible! I took a few shots of some of my favorites - which all happened to be hotels. To the left is the Charlee Hotel where we went up to their rooftop bar one evening & saw stunning views of the city. In the middle is the Zarzo Hotel & Spa - which was next door to the Airbnb we stayed at and also had a rooftop bar & great views. To the right is the Tribe Hotel. We snapped this photo to send to our friend Barbara who works at the Tribe Hotel we stayed at in Nairobi during our trip to Kenya back in 2023.

On our final night in Medellin, we had dinner at Mekong which is a Thai restaurant located in the Click Clack Hotel. Their food was delicious and the staff was also very accommodating considering we showed up just before they closed and they were incredibly gracious & hospitable.

Since we enjoyed our dinner so much at Mekong, we also wanted to try out the breakfast at Click Clack Kitchen (also inside the Click Clack Hotel) and it was just as delicious. They offered a buffet breakfast in addition to the menu with entrees you can order as well. It was just the meal we needed to end our trip in Medellin.

When we arrived to the airport for our flight back to Fort Lauderdale, I was so thrilled to see there was a Pergamino store in our terminal. Of course I had to purchase some coffee beans to take home and remind us of this wonderful trip.

Although we only had a few days to spend in Medellin, I am so happy we were able to take this trip to celebrate our friend’s birthday. It was also exciting because this was Fred’s first time in South America and he loved it, so we will certainly be back again!
