Whats In my Makeup Bag

In May of last year, I shared a “Whats in my Beach Bag” post and it became one of my most viewed pages. So that got me thinking, why not share whats in my Makeup bag? I was so happy when I discovered this Beis makeup bag! It is great for travel because it features a removable sleeve to hold your brushes as well as other items you may want to have in your bag (like bobby pins, hair ties, tweezers or lash glue). Another great feature of the bag is the large mirror that can stand alone which is great for touch ups during travel!

Although a majority of the items I have listed are “high end” products, I can assure you they are all well worth the investment. I have tried many of drugstore and high end products over the years but these are the ones I continue to repurchase because they are truly that amazing! For reference, my skin is combination - more on the dry side, sensitive, and acne prone. I also suffer from hyper-pigmentation and redness across my nose and cheeks. With this in mind, I love a full coverage foundation with a dewy finish. Although I have tried several high end foundations, I can honestly say that nothing compares to the three I alternate between that are all by L’Oreal. My go to recently has been the Infallible Pro-Glow but I equally love the Infallible 24hour Fresh Wear and also an oldie but a goodie is the True Match, which I have been wearing since high school. To apply foundation and concealer I use the Beauty Blender Pro. Some people prefer to use a brush to apply their foundation, but I have found that the beauty blender really helps to apply the foundation in a truly flawless finish. If I were to suggest a brush (and the one I prefer to use to apply a CC Cream) I recommend the Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki brush. On days I want lighter coverage, I love the LancÔme Skin Feels Good Foundation.

When I discovered the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer last year, I was shook! Not only does it smell amazing, the texture of it melts into your skin so well and truly creates a perfect canvas to apply your makeup. As for concealer, I swear by the Tarte shape tape. Recently, I discovered what could be a very good dupe for it at Target, which is the Elf 16 hour Camo Concealer and is a fraction of the price!

The two powders I cannot live without are Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Setting powder and MAC Cosmetics Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. I like to set anywhere I concealed (usually under my eyes, and down the bridge of my nose) with the loose setting powder and the MAC powder to set the rest of my face. It is important to use powder to set anywhere you have used a liquid product to ensure your makeup doesn’t budge throughout the day.

When it comes to blush I have two that I alternate between, depending on what look I’m going for that day. The Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour blush that I love was actually the Beauty Insider Birthday gift a few years back at Sephora, and has been my holy grail ever since. It is described as “nude” on their website, but I find it to be the perfect shade of pink. My other go to blush is by NARS and is more of a peachy, coral shade. I have found that both shades compliment my fair complexion very well.

Now to one of my favorite makeup products of all time…the almighty highlight! I am a highlighter junkie, y’all! I love to try new ones and always have at least 2 in my makeup bag. As of late, I’ve been loving the Benefit Cosmetics cookie highlighter as well as the Laura Geller gilded honey baked gelato swirl illuminator. A few others that I’ve also used in the past and loved would include Maybelline master chrome metallic highlighter and MAC Mineralize skinfinish (which was actually the very first highlighter that I ever purchased).

Brows are such a huge part of my daily makeup routine, because I am naturally blonde, my eyebrows are light, so filling them in is crucial to help frame my face. Even on my “no makeup, makeup” days I will still wear a CC cream or tinted moisturizer, fill in my brows, add a light coat of mascara and head out the door. I used to think that the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow wiz was the best thing on the planet, but then one day I decided to try the Benefit Cosmetics precisely my brow pencil and I have never looked back! The biggest difference between the two pencils is that the Benefit one is waterproof, which I love being that I live in a humid climate. I also like to use the Goof Proof brow pencil. I will start with the Goof proof to trace out the shape that I desire for my brows because this pencil has an angled tip, then I go back in with the precisely my brow pencil to fill in my brows with tiny strokes to help mimic the look of natural hairs.

Eyeshadow is not something that I wear daily, mostly because I don’t take the time to apply it. However, the days that I do choose to spend the time doing a full eye look, I will either grab my Violet Voss Berry Burst, this palette from Fenty Beauty by Rihanna or my all time favorite from Anastasia Beverly Hills.

Like highlighters, I am also a mascara junkie. Every time I am offered free samples of a new mascara during my online shopping with Sephora, Ulta or Nordstrom I always add them to my orders. It allows me to try out new ones to see which I like the best. I have naturally long eyelashes, so something I commonly struggle with is finding a mascara that wont give me “raccoon eyes” as I call it, when your mascara bleeds onto your skin around your eyes. I am still on the hunt for a holy grail, but currently I have been loving the Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Volume 2.

Last but most certainly not least, is setting spray! I used to think that setting spray was just a phony reason to get you to spend more money on unnecessary items, but once I started to see the difference in the life of my makeup throughout the day when I used one, I was convinced they are 100% necessary! Over the years I have used a few different ones, but recently MAC has come out with scented sprays and although I can’t say the ingredients are the cleanest, my go to has been their Coconut scented Fix +.

I would love to hear in the comments below your favorite products and anything you can’t live without! Also, please let me know if you would be interested in me posting a tutorial of my everyday makeup routine!
